Daniel J. Flood: The Next Closest Thing to God
Kitch Loftus-Mussari
Anthony J. Mussari
He was, without question, the most colorful, flamboyant, effective political leader Northeastern Pennsylvania has ever known.
Wherever he went, he left a trail of memories that were not soon forgotten.
Whenever he spoke, he talked about making the federal government work for the people he served.
Every waking moment of every day he invested his energies to advance the needs and concerns of his congressional district.
He was a congressman like no other in our history.
He was Daniel J. Flood...thespian…salesman…orator…patriot…neighbor…friend
Member of Congress, 11th Congressional district of Pennsylvania.
The Next Closest Thing to God is a trigger film Kitch and I produced for the annual history conference at Luzerne County Community College. It is narrated by Greg O’Brien. Music for the film was provided by Carole Lynn Campbell and Ed Pall.
The film attempts to shed light on Dan Flood the man, his times and his accomplishments. We hope that the viewer gets a better understanding of what it was like to be a congressman a transitional time in the anthracite region of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
The theme of the conference is The History of Northeastern Pennsylvania: The Last 100 Years. Dan Flood is central to that story. He was a congressman like no other. He was the most powerful Congressman the 11th district ever had. His memory lives on in the many positive things he did for his district and his nation.
We hope you enjoy this special presentation of Daniel J. Flood: The Next Closest Thing to God.
